senseless surrender

Every now and then
a part of me drifts away.
In silence I watch
her go.

I know what it means
I know what’s sure to follow
But still I watch
her go.

Like a warm summer breeze
left to unforgiving floods
which steal
my breath.

Yet still I watch
her go.
Knowing what it means
Knowing what’s sure to follow.

Why, I wander
Why
don’t I ever
stop her?
